Materuni waterfall is the best, most popular and well known short daytrip in Moshi Kilimanjaro, Located in Uru area the home of Chagga people.
The village is located in the northern part of Moshi town only 15km from Moshi center. Materuni waterfall is the last village before entering Mt. Kilimanjaro National Park and it’s approximately 2500m above sea level.
Driver/Guide will pick you up from Moshi center to materuni which is 40minutes away, on the way your guide will inform you about the history, culture, traditions, village economy and agricultural life of the chagga as well as the surrounding Fauna and Flora, The views are truly breathtaking and with some luck you will see the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro
When you get to the waterfalls you can refresh yourself in the natural pool so swimsuit will come in handy, after having enjoyed the scenery you will return with your guide to Materuni village there you will experience a traditional Chagga lunch (cooked banana) as well as having an opportunity to even taste the chaggas local banana beer.
The tour will continue with a visit to the village’s local coffee plantation there your guide will explain more about the grown coffee, here you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed, but that’s not all you will also have the opportunity to execute every step by yourself which will be accompanied with local chagga songs and dances as a fun way to emmerse yourself in the local culture.
You will pick your own coffee, remove the cover and then with the previously dried coffee you will crush it into coffee granules. After experiencing the coffee production process you will be able to enjoy your very own satisfying and rewarding cup of fresh coffee and there after you will taken to Moshi town by the driver/guide.
